After an extended hiatus, we are pleased to announce Blackchords are back and busy in the studio working on new material.
Forming in Melbourne, Blackchords quickly made a name for themselves when the chilling yet beautiful music video for their debut single ‘Broken Bones’ won ‘Best Music Video’ in the prestigious St Kilda Film Festival.
Blackchords went on to released their self-titled debut album in 2009, to widespread critical acclaim and rave reviews and was shortlisted for the 2010 AMP award. “Melbourne quartet shoots for the stars on widescreen debut” – Rolling Stone.
Songs from the debut album have been featured in the Australian television shows ‘Underbelly: Razor’, 'Offspring', ‘Rescue Special Ops’, and ‘Cops L.A.C.’. They have also featured on the US television shows ‘Teen Mom’ (MTV) and ‘Being Human’ (NBC).
After extensive national touring, the band travelled to France and the UK, touring and playing The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City festivals. The music video for the band's second single ‘At World's End’ received airtime on MTV UK and NME TV.
After returning to Australia, Blackchords accepted an invitation to open for Australian rock icons Powderfinger, for the 'Sunset Sounds Farewell Tour' event at Melbourne’s iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Soon after, Blackchords wrote and recorded the dark and majestic title track ‘As Night Falls’ for the Australian feature film ‘Blame’, released in 2011.
After a successful crowdfunding campaign the band embarked on their sophomore album ‘A Thin Line’ The band were privileged to be joined by Mercury Music Prize nominated and Grammy Award winning producer David Odlum (The Frames, Gemma Hayes, dEUS) and Red Room's Mark Stanley.
Despite taking an extended break their music has continued to remain relevant and has featured in a variety of TV shows including Orange is the New Black, Betrayal, MTV's Teen Wolf and 16 & Pregnant, Being Human and Shameless which prompted the release of third single ‘Into The Unknown’.
